Deh, dolce anima mia
che con tuoi vaghi lumi
il cor m'ardi e consumi—
fra foco giaccio, speme, e gelosia.
Concedi a 'st'alma almeno
che da tue dolce labbia
il vital spirto rihabbia
ch'in te ratto fuggì com'un baleno.

English translation

Sweet soul of mine
who burn and consume my heart
with your beautiful eyes—
I lie at once amidst fire, hope, and jealousy.
At least grant to this soul
that it may have back
from your sweet lips the very living spirit
which like lightning fled to you, stolen away.
