Italian text Dolce ritorn'amor, cortese e pio Nel angelico viso, Ond'à gran torto sdegno o sdegno rio, T'ha si per me diviso. Et deh teco signor l'usato riso. O'il bel sguardo rimena Che l'aspra pena, Ch'io sostegno à morte, Se pur vita quest'è non mi trasporte.

English translation Sweet love, return, gentle and pious, to that angelic face, where, by a great wrong, contempt, o cruel contempt, has so divided me from you. And alas with you, Sir, bring back your accustomed smile and your lovely gaze, so that the harsh pain that I endure unto death, if this is indeed life, does not carry me away.
