Latin text ALEPH. Ego vir videns paupertatem meam  in virga indignationis ejus. ALEPH. Me minavit, et adduxit in  tenebras, et non in lucem. ALEPH. Tantum in me vertit, et  convertit manum suam tota die. BETH. Vetustam fecit pellem meam, et  carnem meam. Contrivit ossa mea.  Jerusalem, Jerusalem  convertere ad Dominum Deum tuum.

English translation I am a man who sees my affliction at the rod of his wrath. He has pushed and dragged me into darkness, and not into light. Surely has he turned his hand against me again and again, all the day long. He has made old my skin and my flesh. He has broken my bones. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, turn to the Lord your God.
