Description: Christ-tide motet. A very early allusion (?the earliest) to the shepherds' piffaro/pastorale style which became ubiquitous in the eighteenth century. This work is a contrafact of 'Dolor, tant'è la gioia che mi dai' from Il quinto libro de madrigali a cinque voci (1585).

Latin text Eia O Jesu parvule nata Mariae. Hunc oculos reflecte et risu laeto mortalium laetus corda revise, eaque crepidantia confirma. Eia. Natali tuo cantando voces erigimus cum angelis laetantes et jubilando tua gratulamur quae digna genetrici tam nobile concipere talentum, et coronamus mille, mille rosis.

English translation Eia, tiny Jesus born of Mary. Turn your eyes to him and with mirthful laughter revisit this late-born joy of man, and affirm him by applause. Let us fete your birth in song, and together with the angels' joyful voices, let us rejoice in her, worthy to be the mother of so noble a talent, And let us crown her with thousand upon thousand of roses.
