Freundlich von Art ein Fräulein zart
hab ich mir aus erkoren.
Sie ist, die mir doch alles Leid
vertreibt und mir mein Herz erfreut.
Jetzund bin ich ganz ruhiglich,
weil sie mir hat geschworen,
in Lieb so lang geg'n mir zu stehn,
bis es nach meinem Wunsch werd gehen.
Demnach forthin will ich mein' Sinn
auf sie allein nur richten,
ich will es meinen recht und gut,
ich weiß, dass sie dergleichen tut.
Und ob es halt sich also bald
wollt schicken gar mitnichten
will ich dannoch nit lassen ab,
so lang, bis ich das Fräulein hab.

 English translation
Of kind nature is the tender damsel
I have chosen.
It is she who dispels all sorrow
and makes my heart glad.
Now I am entirely quiet,
for she has sworn to me
to stay in love to me
until all will be happening the way I want.
Therefore from now on I will direct my mind
only on her alone,
I mean to be right and sound,
I know she will do the same.
And although it might not soon
come to pass as we want it,
I shall not desist
until I have got my damsel.
