Italian text Il dí s'appressa, et non pòte esser lunge, sí corre il tempo et vola, Vergine unica et sola, e 'l cor or coscïentia or morte punge. Raccomandami al tuo figliuol, verace homo et verace Dio, ch'accolga 'l mïo spirto ultimo in pace. Canzoniere 366 (last 7 lines)

English translation The day is coming, surely coming soon, such is time’s incessant flight, Virgin peerless and unequalled, and my heart is oppressed, now by pangs of conscience, now by thoughts of death.
