Life

Died: 13 December 1622

Biography A leading Humanist and pedagogue as well as composer, Campanus (called Vodňanský after his birthplace) was a professor of Greek, Latin and history at Prague University. His hymns and Latin psalm paraphrases appeared in Odae sacrae (1613); a second volume, Sacrarum odarum libri duo (1618) includes music in homorhythmic SATB settings reminiscent of the vers mesurés of Jean-Antoine de Baïf and Claude Le Jeune.
