We are the monarchs of the earth, we!
Our joy proclaims it loudly,
Like Joy, no treasures, rank, or birth,
Can wear a crown so proudly;
Each goblet shall a kingdom be
And joy and wine our subjects free!
Let all to Joy a bumper drain,
And never-ending be his reign.
We are the monarchs of the earth, we!

Care would with Joy dispute the crown,
And banish ev'ry pleasure,
But we will keep the tyrant down,
And Joy shall know no measure;
Old Care, however he may frown,
In sparkling bumpers we will drown.
Let all to Joy a bumper drain,
And never-ending be his reign.
We are the monarchs of the earth, we!
