Michelangelo Rossi

Biography:
Originally known as a violin virtuoso, Michelangelo Rossi is most notable today for his array of highly chromatic compositions, both for instruments and for voices. Although his 1657 book of toccatas is the most well-known of his compositions, he also wrote two books of madrigals in the 1620s (apparently unpublished) that feature a level of chromaticism only seen in such extreme examples as Carlo Gesualdo or Scipione Stella.
