Biography
Nelson D. Coon was born in Herrick, Pennsylvania, and studied music in North Reading, Massachusetts, under Lowell Mason and George F. Root. During the Civil War, he enlisted in the 141st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and was taken prisoner at the second battle of Chancellorsville. After the war, he went to Wisconsin and taught music in northwestern Wisconsin towns. He moved to Eau Claire and built a successful musical merchandise business. He died in Eau Claire. He wrote assorted pieces and some appear in song books created for use in singing schools and musical conventions.
