English text

Oft have I stood at eve, on Isis' banks,
To hear the merry Christ Church bells ring round.
So have I sat too in thy honoured shade,
Distinguished Magdalen, on Cherwell's brink,
To hear thy silver Wolsey tones so sweet.
And so too have I paused, and held my oar,
And suffered the slow stream to bear me home,
No speed required while Wykeham's peal was up.
