Venga Madonn’almen, novella Musa;

dann möge zumindest meine Herrin kommen, eine neue Muse;

Which of you, oh muses, deigns to help me,
if my heart calls for it?
But if all you refuse to come,
then at least my lady may come, a new muse;
she shall not carry with her a vessel
full of the water of Pegasus,
she shall not collect green leaves
to crown my front with a circle of them:
I wouldn’t have her make me any other crown
than the one made of her beautiful and soft arms.
