Con quelle soavissime parole
Che sì lieta tenea la vita mia,
Quando senti Maria?
Ecco il tuo sole,
Che tanto bram’ e chiedi,
Hora n’ascolta et vedi.
Et lei tremendo agghiaccia,
Quando il sol si trova nelle sue braccia

Wann wird je der Tag sein,
an dem du zu mir zurückkehrst, meine süße Sonne,
mit jenen sanftesten Worten,
die mein Leben so fröhlich machte,
wann wirst du Maria wieder verspüren?
Hier ist deineSonne,
die du so ersehnst und erbittest,
nun höre und sehe!
Und sie erstarrt zitternd,
als die Sonne sich in ihren Armen befindet.

English translation

When will that day be
that you return tu me, my sweet sun,
with those soft words,
that made my life so cheerful,
when will you feel Maria again?
Here is your sun,
who you so longed and asked for,
