Soavissimo fiato
che fra vermiglie rose
di due labbra amorose,
spirando odor sì grato:
porti alla bocca mia mentre io respiro,
che giù scendendo al core,
fa per dolcezza ch'ei si sface e more.
Perché, lasso, te'n fuggi
qual veloce sospiro
e col fuggir tanto mio ben distruggi?
Deh, spir'eternamente,
che altro piacer questa anima non sente.

Sweetest breath
that among the vermillion roses
of two passionate lips,
exhaling such a pleasing scent:
carry to my mouth as I inhale,
that, descending to my heart,
causes it to melt and die for the sweetness.
Why, alas, do you run away
like a swift sigh,
and with your fleeing destroy my wellbeing?
Ah, breathe eternally,
for this soul knows no other joy.
