There's a difference between
A beggar and a queen,
And I'll tell you the reason why:
A queen cannot stagger
And get drunk like a beggar,
Nor yet be so happy as I.
Let the back and the sides gang bare,
Let the arms and the feet gang cold;
Give but the belly, boys, ale enough,
Whether it be new or old.

Sometimes we wait
At a gentleman's gate
And ask for a drop of small beer;
Some of us are blind,
And some of us are lame,
And some cannot very well hear.
Let the back and the sides....

Sometimes we lie
Like pigs in a sty
And a little cold straw in a barn;
Yet we sleep as sound
As the rich, I'll be bound,
Or those who their living do earn.
Let the back and the sides....
