English text
Silent night, of dusky feature,
Now thy grateful peace I hail;
While serenely tranquil nature
Sleeps beneath thy sable veil.
Cynthia's lovely ray is glancing
O'er the limpid murm'ring stream,
On its broken surface dancing
Gay and sportive, plays her team.
All around is calmly sleeping,
Hush'd the din of toilsome day,
Scarce are heard the wavelets creeping,
O'er the pebbles as they stray.
Zephyrs move the leaves' low whisper,
While in mournful strain, or light,
Philomel begins her vesper,
And competes the charm of night.
