Education

Kersten obtained a Masters degree in Musicology from the University of Auckland in 1984, studying among other things choral and orchestral conducting.

Background

He was deputy conductor of both Auckland Choral Society and the choir of Holy Trinity Cathedral before moving to the UK in 1997. In that year he became Musical Director of Market Harborough Choral Society, a post he still holds. In that capacity he has conducted Handel's Messiah twice, including one performance recreating the original manuscript of 1741, as well other major choral classics including CPE Bach's Magnificat, JS Bach's B Minor Mass, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle and Puccini's youthful Messa di Gloria.
