Welcome

Welcome to CPDL! We hope you will contribute much and well. You will probably want to read the help pages. Again, welcome and have fun! Claude (talk) 15:12, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Scores uploaded without proper submission.

Hello, Anselm (I presume this is your name). In 2019 and again today, you have uploaded two PDF scores without filling out and submitting an Addwork form, and you need to fill in the required information on the composer page Anselm Kersten (see Template:New composer for some instructions). Then you can click on "Add new work" tab on the composer page and go about filling in the Addwork form. These are necessary and required conditions for posting scores at CPDL. Thanks!! -- Chucktalk Giffen 02:45, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

What's in a name

Hello Anselm. We note that you have been submitting "new" editions of "What's in a name" - each one with the filenames exacty the same as the previous editions of this work - when, in actuality, what you seem to be doing is to upload (minor) revisions that do not substantially alter the original work and hence should not be designated as new CPDL editions. The standard procedure here when one updates an edition with minor revisions/corrections is simply to upload the new files with the same names (as you have done) and then, on the original edition, place an notice in the Editorial Notes section of the edition stating that updated files have been uploaded (with the date of upload). I did this for you for the TWO editions you submitted yesterday, and today you have uploaded yet another edition. I am going to delete today's new edition and update the update notice in the editorial notes. By the way, previously you uploaded files for Drunken Sailor and for Scarborough Fair without ever formally submitting them as editions (as mentioned in the previous topic on you talk page) - do you want to submit these as editions? If so fill out addwork forms for them; otherwise, the files should be deleted. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me or any other admin. Thanks! -- Chucktalk Giffen 21:35, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, Charles, I must apologise again for my technical and conceptual ignorance. I'll try to overcome this sometime this century, hopefully without your losing patience! What I was doing was uploading both minor and major edits to What's in a Name as I was making them, on the assumption that saving them with the same file name would overwrite the previous versions. Obviously that's not the case. Most of the changes are major, not minor, edits, so I assume I will leave the appropriate tickbox in the Editorial Notes section unticked. I didn't appreciate the necessity of doing this, so I will do so in future. Conceptually, I assume that, as far as the mechanics of uploading to CPDL goes, there's no difference between an edition of a pre-existing work, a fresh arrangement of a tune (like Drunken Sailor and Scarborough Fair) and a totally new composition (like What's in a Name), except for loading each arrangement onto its appropriate page. Is this correct? I'll have another go at the other two pieces (Drunken Sailor and Scarborough Fair), but I did strike a snag with the latter because when I tried to upload the MIDI file, it said there was already a pre-existing file (which I was expecting), but I couldn't seem to overwrite it as I did with the What's in a Name sound and MuseScore files. Thanks again for your patience. Anselm (talk) 15:34, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
