Ye sing to us of springtime,
With buds of opening flowers,
When golden sunbeams scatter
The clouds of winter band;
Of buds and shining brooklets,
Of May queens sweet and fair,
But here’s a song for winter
With beauties rich and rare.

O, we’ll sing to the good old Frost King,
To the stars that brighter shine,
To the snows and the jingling sleigh-bells,
To the merry winter time.

Ye sing to us as summer,
With hours of golden maze,
When hum the drowsy insects
And tasseled harvest’s wave,
When azure skies bend lightly,
And pale the moonbeams fall;
But the icy gems of winter
Are lovelier than them all.

The cheeks of youth grow brighter
When touched by winter’s hand;
The aged round the fireside
Recall the household band;
Each home grows hearer, nearer,
The wanderer returns;
While winter kindles starlight,
Within true love-light burns.
