First published: 1590 in Il primo libro de madrigali à 4-6 et 8 voci, no. 6
Description: This madrigal lyric has also been set by Giovanni Croce under the title "A Dio caro mio Tirsi". The present setting has reversed the opening à Dio's, which is strange. I have used the same lyrics as Croce.

Italian text
Caro mio Tirsi à Dio, à Dio Filli mia bella,
Poi che'l ciel vole,
Dicean sovr'Arno all'apparir del sole,
Pastor'afflitto afflitta pastorella,
Piangev'e i piangev'ella,
Piangea con essi Amore,
E quinci e quindi si divise il core.
