Alone, alone, alone.
To the grenewode for to play
And all hevyness to put away,
My selfe alone.

I sawe a maide fayre inow;
That childe wepid alone.
'Son,' she sayd, 'I have the borne
that was forlorne;
Therfor I pray the, son, no more,
But be still alone.'

That men sekyth for to spill,
For them to save it is my wyll;
Therfore I cum hyther alone.'
For mannys gylt is not withstone,
And I, thy modir, alone.'

Alone, alone, alone.
Here I sytt alone, alone.
As I me walkyd this endurs day
To the grenewode for to play
And all hevyness to put away,
My selfe alone.

As I walkyd undir the grenewode bowe,
I sawe a maide fayre inowe;
A childe she hoppid, she song, she lough;
That childe wepid alone.

'Son,' she said, 'I have the borne
To save mankynd
Therfor I pray the, son, no more,
But be still alone.'
'Modir, me  thynkyth it is ryght ill
That men sekyth for to spill,

For them to save it is my will;
Therfor I cum hethir alone.'
'Sone,' she sayd, 'let it be in thi thought,
For mannys gilt is not withstone,
For thu art he that hath all well wrought,
And I, thi moder, alone.'
