Le troupeau des toits noirs qui tremblent
Sous quelque vague désespoir
Et, prosternés à l’horizon
Ainsi qu’une foule en prière,
Semblent, en adoration,
Dispenser l’ombre et le mystère…

Leur voix pure soudain s’élève
Majestueuse, à l’infini…
L’angélus réjouit de rêve
L’âme naïve de la nuit…
Courbant pieusement les fronts
Sous l’oraison toute-puissante,
Il fait au silence des monts
Quelque promesse éblouissante…

Et les pâtres, en entendant
Glisser son aile dans l’espace,
Se signent…
Qui fuit dans le vent ?
C’est Dieu qui passe…
