“Cantiam, lieti cantiamo
Al suon di queste mormorante linfe,”
Dicean quattro Pastori,
“E ghirlande tessiam de più bei fiori!”
Quattr’amate da lor leggiadre Ninfe
“Dhe sì,” disser, “cantate, e al vostro canto
Noi danzaremo in tanto.”
“Soli non danzarete.”
I Pastor replicaro.
Et elle: “A noi fie caro
Ciò far che voi farete.”
“Tutti hor dunque danziamo,
E i liquidi cristalli
Guidino col lor suono i nostri balli.”

„Lasst uns singen, fröhlich lasst uns singen
zum Klang dieser murmelnden Gewässer,“
sprachen vier Hirten,
„und lasst uns Kränze flechten aus den schönsten Blumen!“
Vier von ihnen geliebte hübsche Nymphen
sprachen „Aber ja, singt, und zu eurem Gesang
werden wir derweil tanzen.“
„Allein werdet ihr nicht tanzen,“
antworteten die Hirten.
Und sie:“Lieb soll es unssein,
das zu tun, was ihr tun werdet.“
„Alle also nun wollen wir tanzen,
und die flüssigen Kristalle
sollen mit ihrem Klang anführen unsere Tänze.“

“Let us sing, merrily let us sing
to the sound of these murmuring waters,”
said four shepherds,
“and let us weave the most beautiful flowers into a garland!”
Foor pretty nymphs beloved by them
said: ”Oh yes, sing, and to our song
we shall dance meanwhile.”
“You shall not dance alone,”
answered the shepherds.
And they: “Dear shall it be to us
to do what you will be doing.”
“All now we will dance,
and the liquid crystals.
