Edition notes: Musica ficta clearly indicated (probably more generous than necessary or advisable). The Canon (Quintus) on the Superius is pitched a diatonic step below the Superius. With these two voices and the Contratenor frequently overlapping in range, this creates a very rich texture.
Original key edition, but with the Canon part up an octave

General Information

Title: Dont vient cela
Composer: Thomas Crecquillon
Lyricist: Clément Marot , Chanson XIV, l'Adolescence Clementine (1532)

Number of voices: 5vv   Voicing: SSATB

Genre: SecularChanson

Language: French
Instruments: A cappella

Published: 1st published by Tielman Susato in Antwerp, 1543: Vingt et six chansons musicales et nouvelles à cinq parties

Description: This is five-voiced setting with four parts, the superius being a canon. Same melody is used as in the original setting of Claudin De Sermisy. The canon has to start and stop at the indicated place, only a 'secunde' lower... (at C instead of D) without transpositon of course, which results in perfect harmony but an 'estrangement' of the melody, just as Crecquillons tip suggested: Chanter vous fault estrangement: You have to sing strangely.
