German text    Ein kindelein so löbelich,   ist uns geboren heute/   Von einer Jungfraw seuberlich,   zu trost uns armen leuten/   Wer uns das kindelein nicht geborn/   so wern wir all zumal verlorn/   das heil ist unser aller/   Ey du süsser Jesu Christ/   das du mensch geboren bist/   behüt uns vor der hellen.

English translation  A child so praiseworthy,    is born today /    From a virgin neat,    to comfort us poor people /    Had this child not been born    we would all have been lost /    thus salvation is for all of us    Glory to you sweet Jesus Christ /    that you were born human /    protect us from evil.
