English text
Lo! the day is deep'ning,
Night is nigh at hand;
Shadows fall and darken
Over sea and land;
Storm and shine are ended,
Toil is past and blest,
Take thy welcome slumber,
Take thy well-won rest.
Lo! the years are closing,
Night is nigh for thee,
When, like earth and ocean,
Thou at peace shall be.
Fold thy hands together,
Lay them on thy breast,
Thou hast done thy life-work,
Enter into rest.
