Latin text
Gabriel archangelus apparuit Zaccharie dicens:
Nascetur tibi filius, nomen eius Ioannes vocabitur,
et in nativitate eius multi gaudebunt.
Erit enim magnus coram Domino.
Vinum et siceram non bibet,
et in nativitate eius multi gaudebunt.

The Archangel Gabriel appeared to Zacharias, saying:
"There will be born to you a son; his name will be called John,
and at his birth many will rejoice,
for he will be great in the sight of the Lord.
Wine and strong drink he will not use,
and at his birth many will rejoice.
