English text
Hush! my dear, lie still and slumber
Holy angels guard your bed,
Heav'nly blessings without number
Gently falling on your head.
How much better you are attended
Than the Son of God would be,
When from heaven he descended
And became the child we see.
Soft and easy is your cradle;
Course and hard in a manger he lay,
When his birthplace was a stable
And his softest bed was hay.
See the lowly shepherds round Him,
Telling wonders from the sky!
Where they sought Him, there they found Him,
With His Virgin mother by.
"Hush, My child, I do not chide you.
Though this world may seem so hard;
I, your mother, sit beside you,
And my arms will be your guard."
