Biography

James Hook was organist successively at Marylebone Gardens and at Vauxhall Gardens, for over half a century in all, performing concertos nightly and composing over two thousand songs, a number of which remain in use, such as the mock-Scotch 'Within a mile of Edinbro' Town' and the English 'Lass of Richmond Hill'.
