Italian text 1. Prologo (L’Ormindo) Non m'è patria l'Olimpo, né dolce figlia io sono di quell'acuto, e di quel grave suono, che lassù dove splende eterna luce, il moto delle sfere ognor produce. Io nacqui in Elicona delle Castalie Dive da concenti canori, del gran Febo la cetra a me fu cuna, e del suo crin per fasce ebbi gl'allori, bevvi per latte l'acque d'Ippocrene, e le custodi mie fur le sirene. Ora dal bel Permesso, o città gloriosa, ch'hai di cristal le mura, in cui vagheggi la tua beltà, che l'universo ammira, delle grazie, e d'amor famoso regno, a ricalcare i tuoi teatri io vegno. È già varcato un lustro, che su palchi dorati in te risplendo, e le mie glorie illustro, di novi fregi adornano i miei crini l'alme tue muse, e i cigni tuoi divini. Io che bambina passeggiai d'Atene con gemmati coturni in sulle scene, io che condotta fui, vinta la Grecia, e doma da vincitori a Roma, non vidi alle tue pompe, a' fasti tui, o pompa, o fasto eguale, vergine serenissima, e immortale.

English translation 1. Prologo (L’Ormindo) My Homeland is not Olympus, nor am I the sweet daughter of that acute, and solemn sound, that above, where shines eternal light, the motion of the spheres every hour produces. I was born in Helicon from Castalia's muses' harmonious song, great Phoebus' lyre was my cradle, and for swaddling bands I had the laurels of his brow, for milk I drank the waters of the Hippocrene, and my custodians were the Sirens. Now, from the beautiful Permessus, O glorious City, that has walls of crystal, in which is mirrored your beauty, that the universe admires, famous realm of the Graces, and of Love, to enter into your theatres I come. Half a decade has passed, since on golden stages I first shone, and my glories showed; now with new friezes they adorn my hair your soulful muses, and your divine swans. I that as a girl walked in Athens clothed in bejewelled buskins upon the stages, I who was conducted from subjugated Greece, and tamed by Rome, her conquerors, I have not seen your magnificence and splendour in pomp, or splendour equalled, virgin most serene, and immortal.
