French text  modernized M'amie est tant honnête et sage Que chacun doit la révérer. Elle a si beau et clair visage Qu'à foi tous cœurs peut attirer; Mais le mien seul veut martirer. Honneur m'arrête, amour ne point. Las, je ne puis ainsi durer: J'ai une amie et n'en ai point.

English translation My love is so honest and wise That everyone should respect her. She has such a pretty, open face That surely can attract the hearts of all, but wants to hammer mine alone.
