CORRECTION: Since posting, I have subsequently been informed that this piece is Missa alla Palestrina by Francesco Durante. I will be making a revised edition with the new information and removing this from the Leo page.

The manuscript comes from the collection of Domenico Quilici (1757-1831) and has parts and a basso continuo supplied by him. The edition here is presented as a cappella but organ accompaniment would not be out of place.

Performance edition by William Evans, 2021. Transcribed from the digitized manuscript of Fondo Sanvitale, Sanv.C.33/I-XI, in the Sezione musicale della Biblioteca Palatina di Parma. The manuscript comes from the collection of Domenico Quilici (1757-1831) and has parts and a basso continuo supplied by him. The edition here is presented as a cappella but organ accompaniment would not be out of place.

Interestingly, the descending theme of the polyphony used at the beginning of the Christe and again throughout the mass is reminiscent of 'By the waters of Babylon' by Philip Hayes (1738-1797).
