Mi libertad en sosiego
mi corazón descuidado
sus muros y fortaleza
amores me lo han cercado.
Razón, seso y cordura,
Que tenía a mi mandado,
Hicieron trato con ellos,
¡Malamente me han burlado!

Y la fe, que era el alcaide,
Las llaves les ha entregado.
Combatieron por los ojos
Diéronse luego de grado.

Entraron a escala vista,
Con su vista han escalado.
Subieron dos mis Sospiros,
Subió Passión y Cuidado.

Diziendo "¡Amores, amores!"
Su pendón han levantado.
Cuando quise defenderme
Ya estava todo tomado.

Hube de darme presión,
de grado siendo forzado.
Agora, triste cativo,
De mi estoy enajenado.

Cuando pienso libertarme
Hállome más cativado.
No tiene ningún concierto
La ley del enamorado.

English.png English translation

My untroubled freedom,
my carefree heart,
its walls and defences,
have been besieged by Love.
Love has struck a bargain with Reason,
Wisdom and Good Sense,
which I had at my command:
how wickedly they have deceived me!

And Faith, which was the jailer,
has delivered the keys over to Love.
Love attacked through my eyes,
and then my defences all gladly yielded.
