noi siam corsi all’invito d’un pio,
giubilando per l’aspro sentier.
Ma la fronte avvilita e di messa
hanno i servi già baldi e valenti.
Deh non far che ludibrio alle genti
sieno, Cristo, i tuoi fidi guerrier!
Oh, fresc’ aure volanti sui vaghi
ruscelletti de’ prati lombardi,
fonti eterne! purissimi laghi!
oh vigneti in dorati dal sol!
Do no infausto crudele è la mente
che vi pinge si veri agli sguardi
ed al labbro più duro e cocente
