General Information
Title: O Magnum Mysterium
Composer: Wytze Oostenbrug
Lyricist:
Number of voices: 4vv Voicing: SATB
Genre: Sacred, Motet
Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella
First published: 2017
Description: The original Gregorian melody is written in the 8th mode (hypomixolydian) with finalis on G and reciting tone on C. Characteristic here is that this reciting tone (dominant) is not, as usual, a fifth, but a quarter above the finalis. I have transposed this position to C hypomixolydian with reciting tone on F. With this also F major is very close and from there d minor, a minor and even A major are reached. However, the piece closes with an Alleluia in A major.
