Lyricist:
Number of voices: 4vv Voicing: SATB
Genre: Sacred, Motet
Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella
First published: 2017
Description: The original Gregorian melody is written in the 8th mode (hypomixolydian) with finalis on G and reciting tone on C. Characteristic here is that this reciting tone (dominant) is not, as usual, a fifth, but a quarter above the finalis. I have transposed this position to C hypomixolydian with reciting tone on F. With this also F major is very close and from there d minor, a minor and even A major are reached. However, the piece closes with an Alleluia in A major.

Latin text
O magnum mysterium,
et admirabile sacramentum,
ut animalia viderent Dominum natum,
jacentem in praesepio!
Beata Virgo, cuius viscera
meruerunt portare
Dominum Iesum Christum.
Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum in mulieribus.
Beata Virgo, cuius viscera
meruerunt portare
Dominum Iesum Christum.
Alleluia!
Dutch text
O groot mysterie,
en wondervol sacrament,
dat dieren de nieuw geboren Heer zouden zien,
liggend in een kribbe!
Gezegend is de Maagd, wier schoot
waardig was om te dragen
onze Redder, Jezus Christus.
Wees gegroet, Maria, vol van genade,
De Heer zij met u, gezegend zijt gij onder alle vrouwen
Gezegend is de Maagd, wier schoot
waardig was om te dragen
onze Redder, Jezus Christus.
Alleluia!
