Italian text Ohimè, se tanto amate di sentir dir „Ohimè“, deh perché fate chi dice „Ohimè“ morire? S'io moro un sol potrete languido e doloroso „Ohimè“ sentire. Ma se, cor mio, vorrete1 che vita habb'io2 da voi, e voi da me, avrete mill' e mille dolci „Ohimè“. Abweichungen bei Monteverdi: 1: volete; 2: habbia

German translation O weh, wenn Ihr so sehr liebt zu hören, wie jemand „O weh“ sagt, ach, warum lasst Ihr den, der „O weh“ sagt, sterben? Wenn ich sterbe, könnt Ihr nur ein einziges schmachtendes und schmerzvolles „O weh“ hören.
