Placide l’acqu’e placido era il vento
Per mar quand’io men giva,
E alhor ch’io m’adormiva
Sentei là dove ferve alto ed abonda
Soave e dolce foco
Scorrer placido sonn’a poc’a poco,
Fin che nel far de l’alb’a noi ritorno
Posai pien di conforto
Nel desiato ogn’hor placido porto.
Quiet the waters and quiet was the wind
on the sea as I walked there,
much more than ever satisfied with love and content.
But then the wave changed,
changed the breezes at the dusk of the day.
And as I fell asleep,
I felt there where is burning hot and abounding
the sweet and gentle fire
quiet sleep coming by and by,
till at the arrival of dawn
I entered, completely comforted,
the desired ever quiet port.
