  • (Posted 2021-01-30)  CPDL #62593:
Editor: Mick Swithinbank (submitted 2021-01-30).   Score information: A4, 20 pages, 155 kB   Copyright: CPDL
Edition notes: Transposed up a tone. In the first of the three sections, the cantus firmus part has an O2 mensuration sign, implying that each long has the value of three breves. These are also the only two note values used in it. However, it is impossible to make the part harmonise consistently without tweaking the note values somewhat, as has been done here.

General Information

Title: Recumbentibus undecim
Composer: Jean Lebrun
Lyricist:

Number of voices: 5vv   Voicing: SATBB
Genre: SacredMotetGospel motet

Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella

First published: 1519 in Motetti de la corona, Volume 3, no. 5
2nd published: 1537 in Novum et insigne opus musicum (Ott and Formschneider), Volume 1, no. 29
Description: Sources: Motetti de la Corona Libro Tertio, Petrucci, 1519 (and also BSB Mus.ms. 25). Text: Mark 16:14-20. The Alto part is low, or may be regarded as a high Tenor part. The Tenor part is a cantus firmus line, texted throughout in the same way as the other parts are in the third section (with Verse 20 from the passage from St Mark's Gospel). An attractive setting of this rarely used text (Ascension Year B Gospel in 3-year lectionary).

(Amen.) (Mark 16:14-20)
(Cantus firmus: as Verse 20 throughout.)
