Richard Hutchins was the author of the poem, Christ the Apple Tree, first published in August, 1761 in the English periodical The Spiritual Magazine. Hutchins was a Calvinistic Baptist, pastor of a small church in the Northampton village of Long Buckby. He had been hired by this church in 1759, and left before 1765. He submitted several poems to The Spiritual Magazine during that time. Nothing further is known about him (Gerald Montagna 2016).
