Richard Hutchins was the author of the poem, Christ the Apple Tree, first published in August, 1761 in the English periodical The Spiritual Magazine. Hutchins was a Calvinistic Baptist, pastor of a small church in the Northampton village of Long Buckby. He had been hired by this church in 1759, and left before 1765.
