Biography
Irish Romantic Composer. Attended, and chorister at the Cathedral School of Christ Church. Appointed organist at Christ Church, 1844. Professor of Music at the University of Dublin, 1862-1894. Teacher of Sir Charles Stanford was his pupil and friend. Editor, Irish Church Hymnal, 1876. Knighted by Lord Lieutenant, Earl Spencer February 28, 1872, in the throne room of Dublin Castle,
