O proudly o’er the waters waste,
Our vessel sails along,
The shore we leave in rapturous haste,
But with a joyous song,

O for the sea, the roving sea,
Its waters grand and free;
Of thee we sing,
Our thoughts of thee,
O bright, blue rolling sea.

We greet the beckoning blue expanse,
And thousand sunlit isles,
Where in and out the wavelets dance,
To heaven’s approving smile.

O glad we watch the fading line,—
The shore line dim and gray,
No more a changeless life we pine,
A dull or weary way.
