Hai non fia ver, perché colui ch’adoro
Gioisce di mia morte,
E per tormi la vita
Non mi darebbe aita!

Se voi set’il mio sol, se per voi moro
E m’è felice sorte,
Come potrei mirar gl’occhi ch’adoro
Scoloriti per morte?
Mi togliete la vita
Con domandarmi aita.

Ich werde mein Verlangen aufdecken, indem ich sage, dass ich sterbe,
grausames Gestirn, erbarmumgsloses Schicksal.
Ach möge es nicht wahr sein, dass der, den ich anbete,
sich freut über meinen Tod,
und, um mir das Leben zu nehmen,
mir keine Hilfe gäbe!

Wenn Ihr meine Sonne seid, wenn ich für euch sterbe
und das für mich ein glückliches Schicksal ist,
wie könnte ich da die Augen, die ich anbete,
entfärbt vom Tode sehen?

I will reveal my ardour by saying that I die,
cruel star, pitiless fate.
Ah, may it not be true, that he whom I adore
rejoices in my death,
