English.png English translation

This day, in wealth of light and air,
The land re poses:
In silence spreads the fragrance rare
Of roses.

Hushed every sound, the bees alone
Are softly humming;
Or sings the lark, far heavenward gone
Home coming.

And now are heard the Sabbath bells,
Their peace conveying;
And Nature, while their music swells,
Is praying.

Translation by John Troutbeck
German.png German text

Die Haide ist voll Licht und Luft
So sonntagseigen,
Ein jedes Röslein hauchet Duft
In Schweigen.

Weithin kein Laut, die Biene nur
Summt leise, leise,
Die Lerche fliegt zur Himmelsflur
Die Reise.

Und nun die Glocken ferne, ferne
So selig reden:
Und rings um mich empor zum Herrn
Ein Beten.
