Description: This text is of course generally known from the motet by Josquin Des Prez (ca 1450-1521). However, I cannot find where this text comes from. It seems to be a eulogy to God the Lord. Possibly it is a prayer, which also refers to the worship of Christ. Josquin divides the text into two parts: prima pars and seconda pars. The said prayer is the first part. The first stanza of the second part has a very different character, and also a familiar origin. It comes from a French chanson from the Middle Ages, d'un aultre amer (in modern French d'un autre aimer). This song was set for choir a generation earlier by Johannes Ockeghem (ca 1410-1497).
