Background
I sing tenor in the Isura-Madrigal-Chor Geretsried, we sing 4–8 part a cappella choral music, mostly motetts from the renaissance and barock, but also newer works.
And I sing bass in the Palestrina Ensemble München, we do sing Palestrina :)
I like sacred a-cappella music, esp. from the renaissance. Some of my favorite composers / songs (with examples) are
- Cipriano de Rore (Missa ›Praeter rerum seriem‹)
- Josquin (Praeter rerum seriem)
- Jacobus Gallus (Duo Seraphim)
- Josquin (Tu solus qui facis mirabilia, Missa ›Malheur me bat‹ – see score here)
- Palestrina (Missa ›Papae Marcelli‹)
- Francisco Guerrero (Ave Maria a 8)
- Heinrich Schütz (Also hat Gott die Welt geliebt)
- William Byrd (Vigilate)
- Johann Sebastian Bach (Komm, Jesu, komm)
- Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (Denn er hat seinen Engeln)
- Andreas Hammerschmidt (Schaffe in mir, Gott, ein reines Herz – see score here)
- Josef Gabriel Rheinberger (Abendlied)
- Romuald Twardowski (Hosanna)
