Description: This name day song was sung at midnight or early in the morning ("Namenstag-Ansingen"). In the lyrics, the patron saint is requested to ask God for forgiveness of our sins.
There is a vocal setting by Franz Xaver Bronner that was printed in the magazine "Bayerland" in 1891. The version better known today, which differs only slightly, was written down by Prof. Kurt Huber in Mittenwald in 1926.

Wachet auf, ihr Menschenkinder,
wachet auf in schneller Eil',
denn der Tag, er kommt schon wieder,
zu uns'rem Seelenheil.
Lasst uns die(den) heilige(n) N. N. loben,
in dem hohen Himmel da droben,
auf dass sie(er) bei Gott für uns bitt'
um Verzeihung uns'rer Sünd'.
