Original text and translations

1. Wo mag denn nur mein Christian sein,
in Hamburg oder Bremen?
Schau ich mir seine Stube an,
denk ich an meinen Christian.

2. In seiner Stube hängt ein Holz,
damit hat er gedroschen.
Schau ich mir diesen Holzklotz an,
denk ich an meinen Christian.

3. In unserm Stall, da steht ein Ochs,
den hat er oft gemolken.
Höre ich dieses Rindvieh an,
denk ich an meinen Christian.

4. Der Esel, der den Milchkarn zog,
den hat er selbst geführet.
Hör ich nur diesen Esel schrein,
so fällt mir gleich mein Christian ein.
