Description: A dialog between "Germany" and Italy, obviously written for the wedding of Barbara of Austria with Alfonso d‘Este in December 1566. The music cites the "Tedescha", also used by Mainerio in his "Primo Libro de balli..." in Canto 2, bar 6 and 23, Alto 2 bar 21.

Original text and translations

Italian text Cara Germania mia, quanto ti deggio.  Quanto di deggio, cara Italia mia. Da Barbara gentil render mi veggio L’antica età dell’or ch’in me fioria.  Dal forte Alfonso il mio cesareo seggio  Richiamar sento a sommi honori di pria. O restate, alti dei, fra noi restate, Che la terra del ciel’ a par beate.

German translation Mein teures Deutschland, wie viel verdanke ich dir.  Wie viel verdanke ich dir, mein teures Italien. Durch die edle Barbara wird mir zurückgebracht das goldene Zeitalter, das in mir blühte.  Durch den starken Alfonso fühle ich meinen kaiserlichen Thron  wieder aufgerufen zu den höchsten Ehren von früher. O bleibt, höchste Götter, bleibt unter uns, damit ihr die Erde gleich dem Himmel glücklich macht. Translation by Gerhard Weydt
